A stellar day -- Saturday 8 April 2006

A glorious day outside ... a glorious day inside.

A splendid £11,700 was raised, making our total now over £71,000 ... with 9 days in the campaign left to go!

Interesting start to the day with a barber shop group contest going on in the Great Hall.

Special thanks to Robert who brought in our largest single donation EVER. Congrats.

Callers chatted to alumni in the UK, Denmark, Greece, U.S.A., Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Canada, Norway, France, Spain, and Malaysia.

Conversations included matching gifts from companies where alumni work, bringing Denmark students to visit the Aston Business School, advice on interview skills, being at Aston when it was a technical college in the 50's, RAG, wanting to do a PhD at Aston, working in the television industry, hearing the Eurythmics and Garry Glitter at the May Ball, getting married soon, "you should be chasing big business", promoting club nights all over the UK, traveling in Asia, Australia and South America (Boliwia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil), scuba diving society at Aston, Hare Krishna conference at the university, advice on "how to go about working up the ladder to success", missing math lectures to go and play Bridge, being a distance learner from Japan and Germany, fencing, horseback riding, getting thrown out of a few Broad Street pubs, the sex education lecture for freshers in 1967, playing hockey at Aston, serving in the Army, staying at Old Cross while at Aston, career advice, photography and videography, sneaking into the Great Hall and playing the old piano there for hours, the Star Wars Scandel rumours about a military testing base under the university ... and much more.
